Yes, he is. And I am thankful. . .

This past week has been difficult. In addition to some personal trials, our community is reeling at the tragic death of one of our members. I've been very aware of the evil in our world and very ready for the Lord's return. World weary would be a good way to describe it.

God is good. God is love. God is also jealous, and for that I am thankful. I am thankful for his jealous love that called me back during the times I wandered away and when I intentionally turned and ran. Thankful for his jealous love that keeps pulling me closer to him.

I don't know that we talk about his jealousy enough. It's tempting to turn God into a generic, impersonal God-loves-everybody-and-nothing-really-matters kind of God.

That is not the God of the Bible. That is not my God.

He is not generic.

He is not impersonal.

He does love everybody, but everything matters.

Everything.

Yes, he is a jealous God. And, I am glad. Nothing will thwart his will. Nothing will pluck his elect from his hand. Without that assurance I'd go crazy.
